After 6 months of searching for the perfect property (according to Shay), they made the move from the city, to New Virginia, IA. “We always laugh when people tell us they should open their own venue!-Shay
It took 2 years to transform the venue to wedding-worthy. The first year there were 3 weddings, then 27, and now going into 2019 Harpors will be just shy of 60. The success all comes from reinvesting everything, from finances to the owner’s love for their venue. “At the end of the day, we are absolutely obsessed with listening to our couples, and building our dream through their voice.”-Chelsie
Harpors really took off when they stopped focusing on beating the local barns, and started obsessing with listening to their clients. “I used to look at our local competition, but I realized that was a huge mistake when I noticed they all looked the same, did the same thing, with the same experiences. Instead, I spend all of my time researching ways to set the bar, to capitalize on our strengths, and to just simply obsess over the details.”- Shay
The outdoor experience has been Harpor’s claim to fame. Believing a perfect hybrid of indoor/outdoor accommodations is just what was needed for their couples. “It’s significantly more difficult and expensive for us to execute an outdoor venue to perfection, than it is for an indoor property, but it’s absolutely worth it”-Shay
